Onbikes’ annual Bike Build and Winter Wonder Ride raises money and builds bikes for at-risk kids
TAMPA, Fla. (November 29, 2017) – Digital health platform, Peerfit, is partnering with local Tampa Bay area non-profit, onbikes, during the month of December to help bring bikes to foster children and at-risk youth across the country.
Onbikes is in its sixth year of restoring the self-confidence, health, and overall well-being of at-risk kids in the community, by building and delivering bikes around the holiday season. And for the first time this year will be donating bikes all over the country.
“We’ve created this community to help make our mission a reality,” said Julius Tobin, Co-Founder and Development Director for onbikes. “Our mission is to put a bike in the hand of as many foster and at-risk youth as we can, and working with partners in the Tampa Bay Area is helping us further that mission. We all remember the joy we had when we got our first bike and we want to bring that to kids who may not have the chance to experience that joy.”
Peerfit’s annual Holiday Hustle, which encourages Peerfit users (Peerfitters) to workout now until December 29th, will donate $1 for every class taken to onbikes in support of their mission.
“We are honored to have the chance to partner with such a wonderful organization,” said Peerfit’s Director of Engagement, Alexandra Markopoulos. “Onbikes’ mission to help nurture and restore the overall well-being of at-risk youth is something that cannot be ignored and we are so proud to be working with them this year.”
Since 2011, onbikes has built and donated over 3,500 bicycles to children in need. In 2016, onbikes had 800 volunteers build more than 800 bikes that were delivered to the greater Tampa Bay Area. This year, Tobin says they are expecting to build more than 800 bikes. And have already donated more than 1,300 bikes throughout the year.
In addition to the Bike Build, onbikes also hosts a Winter Wonder Ride to bring even more awareness to their cause. Tobin says they are expecting more than 4,000 riders at the Winter Wonder Ride that will also features an after party with special guests this year Salt-N-Pepa and DJ Jazzy Jeff.
